LIBRARY

In Çakabey library, kindergarten and 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades have separate reading rooms. In addition, there are study halls for group work and meetings. To aid in the preparation of projects, presentations, homework and research, the library has eight fully equipped computers and a printer.

In addition to DVDs in different academic fields, there are a variety of Turkish and English publications which are updated frequently. Students and parents are able to keep track of available publications and those borrowed through the website. In the school library, there are currently 43,000 books (Turkish, English, French, German).

READING RATE
In Çakabey Private Schools, students read 21.78 books on average in the year 2008-2009. In 2009-2010, this average rose to 26. (Numbers are calculated based on the annual averages of both primary school and high school. Reading which has been done for research is not included in these numbers.).

ANNUAL READING LISTS
As seen by these numbers, Çakabey places great emphasis on the issue of "reading" which is the basic criteria for development. From 2nd to 12th grades, students are given a 'reading-list' which contains books they read throughout the year. Apart from this, in the library, there is a folder for each student. In these folders, not only the books borrowed are recorded but also the suitability of the books for the age group and development is taken into consideration.
In the kindergarten and first grades, to be able to create a love of reading and the habit of going to the library, students listen to the books read by the teachers and they do activities based on pictures.

PRESENTATIONS OF BOOKS AND GUEST WRITERS
Having read the books that are selected for each age group, students make presentations of their books in groups. Furthermore, presenting the different aspects of the books, students also have an opportunity to meet the writer of the book.

READING NEWSPAPERS
In the Turkish Literature Department (both in the High School and the Primary School), daily newspapers and books are read during the first ten minutes of the lesson every day. With this practice, students are able to follow and discuss world affairs throughout the year.
